Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School the year 1992, began her studies in marine biology. Bossard began her professional career in commercial seafood in 1999, when she started working as a crew member on the F/V Sunset the 65' halibut schooner turned to salmon tender with Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and are working together in claiming their share of their respective industries. Both of them are proponents of conserving and profiting from sustainable resources within the fishing industry. In 2007, she became a mother of two young children Bella age 3 as well as Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale seafood distributor known as Otolith. The name of the company is a loving reminder of her intimate understanding of fish biology and her husband's lengthy involvement in the seafood industry often keeping them from each other for 5 months or more when they are focused on their financial and environmental goals which show their independence as well as commitment to their community wherever they live. Bossard with her son Andre 10, and Isabella 12 make their annual return in Southeast Alaska as deckhands to collect wild salmon in the summer. After two months of fishing hooks, lines and a 42-foot salmon troller they joined Aritan and then sold local processors of seafood.
